Sparkle & Shine

& Shimmer was the name of the game . . . errr the blog hop that @BocaBabeArt pointed me to and beautiful works to be seen. Yes it is the Finnabair Blog Hop. Well it just so happened that I was working on a tiny canvas at the time (4” x 2”) and I was using shimmery Silks so um yeah . . . I had to, just had to I tell ya link up and play along. If you want to really see how I did it there is VIDEO.

I had the broken china doll head (from here) that I really wanted to use for something, so I found a tiny black canvas and I smeared on some PaperClay and smashed my broken face (lol) into it, then sat it aside to dry. So um yeah it sat on my desk for a long time (months people) and this one day I thought it was time to make my vision into reality and that’s when Eileen tweeted and I followed the link’age and . . .

Well I don’t have the supplies (mediums) that they used but I do have some sparkle & shine stuffs so I improvised. I used Silks, Glass Bead gel, tiny loose glass beads (from the “experienced” store), embossing powders and some rubber stamps and more paperclay and bam ah lam I ended up with this loverly little 8” x 10” finished piece. And at the time of this post I’m considering entering it into a spring art show here in town. Wish me luck and send me confidence.

Did I mention the poem I wrote while waiting for stuffs to dry it’s short so don’t worry:

From the brokenness

To mold and reshape into something new

Not to replace or fix what was before

But to create a new wholeness, in spite of

What was before

As long as there is a shimmer of life, we can mend cracks

Fashion them with a mystery of their own beauty

And then we can welcome with amazement

Wholeness from the brokenness

Card'age

I have card’age for Jess’s challenge this week – Butterflies

Black card stock, lime green mat, black card stock with perfect pearls (plum, blue smoke and kiwi) dusted on (clearance item at Tuesday Mornings) First time to use 'em - ahhh I don't know.

Heat Embossed butterflies in 3 different colors, the colors don’t show well (green, blue-green (teal'ish) and pink) on the background {shrug} It was hard to photograph this as it’s so iridescent, in real life it is really pretty and I just want to pet it. That means I like it, just saying.

I hope to catch up on the other two weeks, and on my Dar homework

Jess & ArteDar

Combo – a Two fer even. Jess’s card challenge was a card based on Earth Day and ArteDar’s challenge was something Australian. After the photo is the “wordy” part a sort of How-to or um, How I did it, but most of y’all can figure it out on your own cause I know very arty smart peoples.

Card is brown cardstock (finished size 5 ½” x 4”.

I cut an orange mat a bit smaller than the finished size;

I cut the same brown slightly smaller than the mat size then dry embossed it, painted it with copper metallic craft paint, made dots with soufflé gray ( don’t have a black) and white.

With black ink I stamped the front sentiment on orange

Clipped a sprig of rosemary, tied it with orange ribbon

Layered up all the layers ^^^ after edging them all with black ink

There is also a sentiment on the inside- You’re some kind of wonderful

And my friends there y’all have it, another card from this not a card maker.

Week 3 Jess Challenge

card - Banner - use a banner of some sort

So I did. After a funny caption / sentiment / whatever popped in head. . . it was funny in there and now I'll share it cause you might think I'm funny in there too...

Front has: Caution washi Tape from TopazPearleGirl (Julie IKTNYLN aka Julie) and I cut a weird little banner flag thing with a banner flag thing to go on top of that they are on a pole (tooth pick I flattened on one side) . . .  Think BLOWING IN THE WIND people . . . blowing in the wind

Inside has the punch line sentiment

The background card is stenciled with a pale aqua and some clear embossing -both haphazardly. It was fun, what can I say - sucker / glutton for punishment BUT the caption came first. It didn't' take two days to think it up. LoL

Ok so now back to wife'ly duties - have to cook some food'age

Rose Challenge

From the Time Warp Art Retreat in Austin Texas. Rose sent via Annette a white shopping bag full of ribbons, lace, whatnots, paper – a real assortment of goodies. The challenge was to use as much as possible in a project. We all loved looking through the treasures and a few of us started on it that very afternoon, some in secret back in their rooms {wink}. By the time we were wrapping things up on Sunday night only three of us were done, not finished, with our projects. Dar made a nice coordinated journal with pockets and tags – love; Jean made a lovely journal with the 12 x 12 papers folded all special like with pockets – love…

And me I took the 12 x 12 and folded them ¾ of the way, used ribbon to tie them into the folded bag journal. Added pockets to some pages and as I was taking pictures I found that even though I used a ton of the product I had a lot of blank pages.

Sardines & Art

My Dear Internet friend Rejoyce, @able2rejoyce, sort of challenged me (I took it) during her Ustream the other day. And without further aduedi here y’all go…Please enjoy

Rejoyce Sardines Rejoyce

Let all Rejoyce, even those

dollied ladies that lounge about

laying under glasses of wine

next to fine platters

and plates of mustard sardines

Each having shiny arms

of sterling on either side

awaiting to slice and trim

to fussy cut them,

those tiny little savory sardines

Rejoyce in those tines

that fork over the flesh

for into the flesh it moves

See not black eyes or kissable lips

of molten colored koi

they still swim in soup bowls

watching sardines flip and slip

from plate to mouth

and down the gullet do plunge

Rejoyce for the truth

that is the jabberwocky

and pay with paper

the great Canadian Tire way
