New Orleans

Louisiana, it had been 10 years since we were there {honeymoon #1} Johnny had the opportunity to go to the NADA convention in New Orleans. So away we drove and drove and drove and drove, normally a 6 hour trip but due to the ice closings it was 10 ½. Whole E Muragatron! was my bladder ever tired {insert awkward face} 

I had a great time and I met a super Artist, Alex Beck. See at some of these conventions they have other things for the spouses to do and see and I sure scored. Anywho, Johnny spotted him first and was almost finished getting his portrait done when I found him. 

WoW. So yeah, as a matter of fact I had to get mine done too, otherwise I would have been all jelly and stuff and we can’t have that. Alex does fine art and you can find him and his work here.

Alex was there drawing portraits using only 2 colors of pastel on grey paper. He may not be a huge fan of using pastels but he sure handles them with precision; Acrylic paints and oils are his preference.

Now let me tell you he had his cards out on a table, y’all know the kind, information on one side and copies of art work on the other. Yeah, my first question was how many cards may I have. LoL Then Alex asked if I could take no more than 3, ack! LoL Carp!! How to pick JUST three? I mean I understand he only had so many cards with him, but really {insert Oh MY No face}. So I picked my 3 very carefully and it was so hard to do. {sigh}

And then I told him that I knew a lot of people {that would be Y’all} and that Y’all would check out his stuff online. So do it, yes do it now {please} I also mentioned to him that if he had a product y’all would definitely click on his link. Alex said, “Product?” and I said, ‘Yeah, like a #2 pencil or something, they like buying stuff.” LoL His product is his work.

So go see him, not just cause I say so but because if he can {and he so did} make me look this good

He deserves a few ^5s and besides I don't want y'all to make me out a lair. {nope} And Alex if you are reading this thanks again for my art and for humoring this 34 year old girl. {am so}

The weather was beautiful and being in nature was outstanding. We got home tired, tired and more tired but very happy. Have I mentioned how much we like our own bed? Well we do. Staying with family & friends is great but home is purdy doggone good too.

Honeymoon #10 was perfect'age

will see Dr. Wang in two weeks, this last course of Chemo is done (as of yesterday) and then we will see about those numbers. DeStressing was very good for Johnny please keep him lifted up in prayer and help us bring that C number down to zero point zero. Thank you for your love, support and prayers.  xoxo

Browsing in the A/C

So there we were on a Saturday, bored and needing someplace to go something to do. But not something or somewhere out in the heat. We needed to be indoors. Ah sweet beautiful Air Conditioning. We knew this because the night before (Friday) we stopped to look at some old cars around our courthouse and even though it was getting dark it was hot...no it was actually sweating super hot. We weren't there long, however we did spy a new shop and that is what popped up for something to do.

We got a bottle of water for the road and off we went to check out the new store: Mimi's on Main and here are my treasures

8 Anton Pieck Postcards

From Mimi's we headed over to Bret's Bargain Barn. As Bret says "Buck a Book at Bret's" and I found a couple that I thought would be good for collage and I found Map'age. Then I found this large tub of rubber stamps marked from $8.95 to .95 cents, but the tub had a sign that said $1.95. So I sat in a chair and rummaged through them. Pulled out several I liked and then did that second thought thing and tossed some back in the tub. I ended up 14 rubber stamps. Got up to the check out and Bam a Lam Bret charged me 95 cents each for the stamps.

Shopping Haul

My husband took Good Friday off from work. Our daughter was away at a youth rally with the church. Have I told y'all how great my man is? Well he is as he took me to a big art store in Houston. He quickly walked the store and sat in a chair up front near the check out. I suppose they get that a lot, you know spouses that sit and wait patiently for their artist to peruse and touch and day dream about all the wonderful arting goodness. I can't blame him. I mean if it hadn't had been for the art supplies keeping me energized I may have had to sit down too.

Okay so we had already made the rounds at Joanne's waiting for the art store to open. She had a pretty good sale on scrapbook papers. Oh it was all so pretty. I wiped the drool from my chin and picked out too many.

Look at what all I purchased. Sorry no clearance crowns, but I did get a new palette knife in case my other ones stops palette'ing or something.

Oh yeah, I had a coupon for Michael's so we stopped there on the way home.

Art Festival II

As promised here is some remaining eye candy from the Bayou City Art Festival as I posted about here.

Lynden St. Victor; very interesting works

J. Stirling Barrett; it may be hard to tell from the artist card but the photos appear to be taken, cut apart and put back together to make a composite, that appears to be printed on canvas. I did not get to speak with the artist hence my "it appears" opinions.

R. Michael Wommack; this card does not really show the depth of richness and vibrant life contained within the work.

Phil Kutno, drawings and mixed media that incorporates portions of his drawings which are poster sized. He confided in me that it takes a year for each drawing. There are intricate drawings within the drawings.

Jeannie and Sam Maddox-the Featured Artist for 2010; This painting is so amazing so real it looks like a photograph and makes you want to hand a towel to her.

That wraps up my visit to the festival. I do want to add that we have actually been having a real Autumn so the weather was beautiful in this fine country of Texas.

Art Festival

We made it to the Bayou City Art Festival this year and I loved it. I do believe it was bigger this year as it spread out further and was packed tighter. I meandered about and saw some familiar artist and met new ones. Most were kind and spoke freely of their work and others were short and only wanted to discuss sale-Sale-SALE.

Steven Graber: When I asked his medium he told me it was layered-watercolor, acrylic followed by oils. The texture on the paintings created wonderful movement and please note he made his own Giclee prints.
